Covid vaccination drive administered over 190 crore doses across India

Union Ministry on May 7 released data regarding the first phase of the vaccination drive across the nation launched on January 16, 2021. According to the data, cumulative numbers of vaccination administration have crossed 190 crores across India with more than 3.01 crore children between the age of 12-14 years vaccinated with the first dose. For the age group of 18-59 years, the numbers came to around 9.95 lakh jabs of precautionary dose. 

On April 10, the administration of the precautionary dose began at the national level for all the people above 18 with the criteria of nine months gap from the second dose before administration.

The vaccination drive began with the immunization of healthcare workers with the frontline workers vaccination program initiated on February 2, 2021, in the first phase. The next phase began with the vaccination of people above 60 and above 45 with specified comorbidities.  January 3 marked the initiation of vaccination for adolescents with March 16 Scheduled as the date for the launch of the vaccination program for teens between 12-15 years with the removal of the comorbidity clause for all the age groups.
